Elementary Math
The math curriculum has shifted away from computation, rote learning, and routine practice activities to reasoning, conceptual understanding, and problem solving. Students have to make connections between mathematical concepts and then be able to use math in the real world. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) reflect the changes in the math curriculum.
The revised TEKS, adopted in December 2005, required mandatory implementation in the classroom in the 2006-07 school year. As you look at the revised TEKS, think about the new and exciting activities that may be used with your students in addressing the revisions.
